Why I Left Spacehey

on my homepage, i mention that spacehey had banned me due to the weird double standards of the moderators on the platform. while i was at first upset at having been banned unfairly, i have since changed my stance. spacehey is no longer a platform i want to use. the moderation team has been removing posts that call awareness to harmful content on the platform such as bigotry and CSEM, or content that is not allowed on the platform such as pornography, while doing little to nothing about that content when it's posted. the moderators insist that the way to get content like that taken down is through reports and not public attention... but no public attention would need to be brought to it if reports worked on their own. when asked why public callout posts get removed (usually within a short notice of having been posted), but reports of harmful content are often glossed over unless public attention is brought to them, he responded with "if we allow users to police each other publicly, the site turns into a warzone of harassment, which we can't manage as a small volunteer team." when told that numerous people have taken the mod application and havent heard anything back, he backtracked and said "theres a reason the mod team is small." despite undertanding that the team struggles due to low numbers, he insists that the tem has to remain small for... what reason, exactly? when i at first challenged why i was banned, he told me "the rules apply to everyone," but it's clear the rules only seem to apply to anyone who's willing to let the moderators sweep the site's issues under the rug. while it's fair to claim that letting users publicly call each other out will lead to issues on the site, punishing users for bringing awareness to harmful content on the platform will reinforce the idea that that content is allowed to remain on the platform so long as it's worded carefully enough, and anyone upset by it has to keep quiet or get suspended for speaking out. this would be bad enough if it were only affecting the users of the platform, but it's unfortunately affecting even some of the moderation team, as a former moderator was removed from the channel after mentioning the platform's issues with CSEM. as of now, i dont care if spacehey decides to unban my account. if i stay banned, i already have my blog here. if they unban me, ill explain why im not on the platform and make my page an archive. spacehey is no longer the safe space it claimed to be, and i will not support the platform going forwards. if the moderators dont fix their act soon, we're looking at the internet's next 4chan.
