so a handful of users on Napoleon were banned today. knowing how so many people joined the platform due to the glaring moderation issues on SpaceHey, i had a feeling that people might take issue with this without knowing the full story. so i came here to sort out the matter. (note: this is also on my Neocities, because people ccould post on napo for the time being.)

this story starts with a user named "Chen." i will not be linking their account both because it's banned, and because it contained a virus code. they had a blog talking about how they were "new to [the platform]," which thankfully, i found quite uninteresting and scrolled past. a lot of people, however, did find that post interesting, and went to read it, leave a comment, or check out the page of the poster. unfortunately for them, the page had code that would infect other users' pages, leading them to post spam blogs that they never actually made or posted themselves, and interacting with the affected accounts would put similar code on your blog as well. i have dubbed this "Chronically Online Wasting Disease," as i thought it functioned similarly to chronic wasting disease, in which regular deer can become infected by drinking water that was contaminated by an infected deer, just on a digital scale. in order to prevent this from spreading further, the moderation team decided to temporarily ban those affected, who are most likely all unbanned by the time this is posted.

so, just to recap: if you happened to get banned today, you were not banned for petty reasons. you were not banned for "disagreeing" with a moderator. you were not banned for voicing general criticism of the site. you were banned because you accidentally interacted with a page that had contagious code, and the moderation team was trying to kill and prevent that from spreading further.

thanks for reading!!
